More backslashes ("\." is the same as "."):
unlist(strsplit("a.b.c", "\\."))
(and to get that in formatted docs, the source needs to say
unlist(strsplit("a.b.c", "\\\\."))
which it didn't)
It's fixed in the snapshots already.
