[R] Documents in Docs directory

thank you for the prompt reply (Prof Ripley & Uwe Ligges). It turned out
to be that the files I ftp-ed somehow got corrupted. Indeed, after
downloading again everything is back to "normal" - I can view the files
without any problems.

P.S. I've mirrored the subdirectory to the local drive. The process was
very much automated. Well, something must have gone wrong with mirroring!
