[Using kmeans(iris[1:4],5,20)]

Yes.  It starts with a random sample from the dataset.

> In S-Plus (2000)  the repetitive executions gives us the same result.

S-PLUS (6.0) uses 

# if starting values not specified use hclust to get them

so the algorithm is different.

> Are these  results  generated by R consistent?

Consistent with what?
