It might be a useful convention to point people to the official
documentation, as Uwe Ligges did (and I did in a private reply to Sarah).
And for general information, the R FAQ (see the trailer on this message)
and the rw-FAQ,
are well worth consulting. The latter answers this question in detail.
(That's the version for rw1011 that will be along in a day or two.)
