[R] increasing memory size

It's a (/bin/sh) shell script and shell scripts do not want blanks
around "=" 

x = y # execute program "x" with arguments "=" and "y"
x= y  # execute program "y" with environment var "x" set empty
x=y   # set variable "x" to "y"
