[R] R-0.65.1 installed on SuSE6.2

I've downloaded again the tgz and this time it worked fine.
A couple of questions,

1.What should I do in order to get
ride of the former version? just remove the directory?

2. Now that the packages come as rpm, should we install
them from the same directory than the R package, is it
better to do it from another directory (i.e, R-packages)
or does the rpm take care?

Thanks
