I just tried it with R 0.65.(1-eps) and lyx 1.0.4 and it seemed to
work. Lyx seems to get itself in a panic state if the PS renderer
fails once (e.g. if you set the width to 0, then back to 8cm, the
renderer seems to go into an infinite loop), and it managed to crash
the window manager on the way out, but neither of those would be the
fault of R.

What is going wrong for you?
