As the Debian package maintainer I'm apologize for not responding to
you earlier. I was travelling last week and away from my e-mail.

The general way of using the .tex files created in the latex directory
for each package is to go to /usr/lib/R/doc/manual and run latex on
the file Reference.tex. I see that it doesn't work with the current
Debian package. I'll try to fix that when I upload the package for
R-0.64.1

That binary version of that package will be uploaded to the unstable
or potato distribution but the source version should be able to build
on a slink system. Once I get the package generated I will send you
instructions on how to build it from the sources.
