[R] data sets

That is a modified version of notes by Bill Venables and Dave Smith for
S-PLUS, and those datasets are available for loading into S-PLUS in
various places, http://www.stats.ox.ac.uk/pub/S for one.

If no one else has already done so, I will arrange with Bill Venables to
re-package them as an R package and submit to CRAN.

Several of the datasets have since turned up in our MASS library:
Janka, Gasoline, Michelson-Morley, rat, snail, Stormer, steam, painters
at least.
