I'm not familiar with S/S+, but I think the "xgobi" software package can
do what you want (spin plots, brushing, etc. ...).
There is an interface to R as well as to S/S+. The program itself and the
interface are both available at StatLib (Mirror from
http://www.research.att.com/areas/stat/xgobi).
I don't know what kind of platform you are using, but as far as I remember
"xgobi" is included in a number of Linux distributions, which could make
life a little easier for you.
