[R] problem to install R-0.64.2 on mips-sgi-irix6.4

Can you please try the current 0.65 (r-devel) snapshot instead?  The
configure/make systems has been substantially changed/improved in this
version.

Where does the `-prototypes' come from?  Something you set somewhere?

What is the problem with native make?  (I assume it is gone in 0.65).
