I have uploaded a Debian GNU/Linux package for R-0.63.2 to the
standard Debian mirrors (in the unstable distribution) and to the CRAN
mirror
http://cran.stat.wisc.edu/bin/linux/debian/2.1/
It should hit the other CRAN mirrors within two days.
The lintian checker for Debian packages complains that this package
was compiled with a bad libc. I have not been able to verify this. I
think lintian may be wrong.
I would appreciate it if someone could test out the installation of
this package and tell me if it fails for you. I have not been able to
make it fail myself.
I believe this will only install under Debian 2.1, which is still in
the pre-release "frozen" state. I suspect there will be conflicts
with library versions in Debian 2.0. Again, I would appreciate it if
someone could verify this for me. I can try to make a 2.0 package of
R-0.63.2 but I'm not sure if I have any machines still running 2.0 on
which to build it. If someone else wants to build from the sources on
a Debian 2.0 system I can describe to you how to do it. It is fairly
straightforward. In fact, since the debian directory is included with
the R source tree it may be enough to unpack the sources, cd to the
directory R-0.63.2 and run
dpkg-buildpackage -rfakeroot -us -uc -b
You would need to have the fakeroot package installed to do this. If
it works it will build r-base_0.63.1-1_i386.deb in the parent
directory. If you want to get the right number for the package, edit
the file debian/changelog.
