Excellent job, Peter!
(showing how functions are constructed out of expressions).
[I came too late, Easter Monday is a holiday, here...]
Just a short addition:
approxfun(.) and splinefun(.)
and stepfun(.) or ecdf(.) [after "library(stepfun)"]
{{See ?approxfun, etc. for examples}}
are very nice examples in standard R
how a function can be returned from another function.
Actually they show the superiority of R scoping rules which allow an
environment (of objects, e.g., numeric variables) for a user created
function.
