R-beta: Compiling R-0.16.1 on Solaris 2.5.1

There's the main trouble, the rest of us have been using gcc.

- with *no* .o files getting built?? or is this a rerun of the make
process?

Did you try rerunning that cc command by hand? or replacing cc by ld??
