R-beta: 2) memory problems FACTOR-8 / class 'pointer'

Dear Douglas Bates,
dear Stephen Smith,

that was really NOT my main point. I'm not interested in complaining about
S+ needing 16, 32 or 64 MB, I love the language compared to what I know.
My point is improving S+, if neccessary and if possible. I think pointers
would add to S+. Don't you think so?

The beta of S+4.0 obviously needs 50MB combined RAM and Win-Swap. You ran
it on 32MB RAM machines. I believe you. Nevertheless a priori swaping of
18 MB doesn't attract me. I am used to avoiding swaping for everyday
business. If the final 4.0 really needed 50MB combined memory, I would buy
64MB. If that solves all problems I don't see further need for discussion.

It would be an advantage for S+, if SAS and SPSS people couldn't argue
with unlimited case numbers of their software.

Got my point?

Jens
