Unless I'm mistaken, you can reassign the hidden functions, ie

fna <- joespackage:::usefulfunction

fnb <- janespackage:::usefulfunction

which is a little bit of a pain, but makes the user's code
unambiguous.  This also works with two colons for explicitly exported
functions.
