One work around is to comment out the lines that `scan` reads.
(x <- back2ForwardSlash())
#c:\Users\
all.equal(x, '#c:/Users/')
Or, you could pass a text arg through the dots
(x <- back2ForwardSlash(text="c:\\\users"))
all.equal(x, 'c:/users')
