[Rd] installing spam package is failing (spam_0.29-1)

If I comment out everything in the sources.list file *except* the cran entry,
apt-get fails this way:

# apt-get --reinstall -V install r-base
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
Reinstallation of r-base is not possible, it cannot be downloaded.
0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 1 not upgraded.


Yes, I have successfully done the apt-key thing.
