we end up writing REAL(result)[n++] = REAL(u)[i % k] even though
(gdb) p TYPEOF(u)

i.e., RAWSXP
(gdb) p TYPEOF(result)

i.e., INTSXP
it's because the test TYPEOF(u) <= INTSXP fails bind.c:1306.
