[Rd] R 1.9.1 Crash in Win2000 (PR#7139)

It's a Windows limitation, it seems, so who knows (and it may depend on 
your exact OS version).  My guess is that it is 255, and I will add a 
limit of 255. (200 works, 300 crashes.)
