All you need to do is to *read* the ReadMe in the CRAN area. It says
Be aware that the binary versions of the bundles VR and dse
cannot be updated using update.packages() or install.packages()
in R-1.7.0, because of a bug in rw1070: you need to download the
zip files manually from ./rw1070bundles and unzip them (manually)
in your local rw1070/library.
