command line editing does not work (2) (PR#1657)

I include more information to my message sent
at Tue, 11 Jun 2002 19:51:24 +0200 with the same
subject.

The config.log contains the following lines:

I have the readline package properly installed:
> rpm -q readline
readline-2.05-21
