As far as I recall 5.002 was buggy and we rapidly went to 5.004.
(Something similar happened in RedHat Linux 5.2's Perl.)   We would
recommend upgrading to Perl 5.6.0.

Another guess is that it might require &mywrap there.

I'm pretty sure that what we have is valid Perl, and that some versions
of Perl have choked on valid Perl.  Upgrading is the best answer.
