network outage 1/9/2000 05:00 - 09:30 CST

The University of Wisconsin - Madison has scheduled another period of
network down time for Sun, Jan 9, 2000, 05:00 - 09:30 local time
(2000/01/09 11:00 - 15:30 GMT).  This will affect the r-project.org,
omegahat.org and madisonlinux.org domains.  The primary nameservers
for those domains and some of the http servers will be inaccessible.

     OUTAGE REMINDER FOR 1/9/2000
     We have a major outage scheduled for this Sunday starting 5AM and 
     estimated end time of 9:30AM.
     
     Here's some details for those of you interested.
     1)  Upgrade Ethernet switch code across the entire backbone.
     2)  Upgrade ATM switch code across the entire backbone.
     3)  BIGMACC router will be getting a new chassis allowing it to become 
     "two" routers.  A code upgrade will be performed one of the BigMacc 
     routers.
     4)  All Routers will be receiving upgraded ATM interfaces.
     
     This outage will affect all campus users that need campus backbone and 
     internet access during this time period.  
     
     The length of the outage will vary for each customer and the whole 
     outage period will be needed.
