I would prefer if you didn't do this. The dependence of hdf5 on external
libraries causes problems when you distribute binary versions of R.
We currently have two RPMs for R: R-base and R-base-with-hdf5. The only
difference between the two is that the latter is linked against libhdf5
and the functions hdf5save() and hdf5load() are enabled. Putting hdf5
in a separate package means that we can distribute a single RPM for
R-base, and provide the extra functionality of access to hdf5 files in
a separate add-on package. Merging hdf5 and foreign would put us back
in the original position.
