packages with FORTRAN code

I like the idea that I shouldn't have to specify a Makefile (which I mess up
regularly) and R INSTALL will magically work on all platforms. Is this available
already in 0.64.1 or should I wait for 0.65?

Currently with 0.64.1 in Solaris I'm getting    "g77: unrecognized option
`-PIC'" but things seem to work ok. I'm not specifying PIC so I think that it is
being mistakenly added by R INSTALL.
