Install R-0.63.1 on Solaris 7

I do. (Don't ask why we have all of Solaris 2.5, 2.5.1, 2.6 and 2.7 aka 
7. Upgrades always seem just too big for the current partitioning.)  But
before I investigate:

(i) is there a good reason to be trying 0.63.1 rather than 0.63.2?

(ii) which compilers were you trying to use, e.g. what is reported
when configure is run, and what versions are those compilers?
