[R] R --gnome segfaults on RH 6.0 with R-0.65.0

Probably the latter. A note to R-devel should suffice to get the
immediate attention. When we get around to working through the bug
repository, the world may look completely different. 

One thing, btw. What happens if you run

bin/R -d gdb
(gdb) run --gnome
<<crash>>
(gdb) bt
<<stack trace telling us what was the call>>
(gdb) up
<<possibly repeat until inside R>>
(gdb) l
