GConvert error when using pictex (PR#173)

[I'm refiling this one due to mailer config messup]

I get an error whenever I try to plot a histogram in pictex.
The error doesn't occur for X11 or postscript.

> x<-c(1,2,3)
> pictex()
> hist(x)
Error: Bad units specified in GConvert, please report!
