Yes it would be a good idea.
Ideally we should have something like
CC gcc 2.7.2.3
FC egcs-2.90.29 980515 (egcs-1.0.3 release)
MAKE GNU make 3.76.1
which would be my current setup.
Brian suggested this morning to redo PLATFORMS as follows: first an
intro part like
0.63.3:
Linux:
i386 Debian 1.3, 2.0, Red Hat 4.0, 5.0, 5.2, SuSe 6.0
ppc LinuxPPC 4
alpha xxx
FreeBSD 2.2.5
SGI Irix 6.2
Sun Solaris (Sparc) 2.5.1, 2.6, 2.7
DEC Alpha (OSF4)
and then simply append the new-style database for detailed info.
Maybe I should then split CC/FC/MAKE as above.
