R-0.62.1 on DEC Alpha

The good news is that Christopher Chimelis has compiled and
successfully run R-0.62.1 on a DEC Alpha running Linux (Debian
GNU/Linux 2.0 for Alpha).  He needed to set the -mieee flag to the
compiler which, for that system, is the egcc compiler from the egcs
system.

The bad news is that I can get R-0.62.1 to compile on a DEC Alpha
running Digital Unix 4.0 with the gcc 2.7.2 compiler and using the
-ieee flag but it still generates a floating point exception before it
gets to the first prompt.
