R-alpha: batch

  Following on Peter's suggestion, if there is going to be a recognized
batch mode that does not save the .RData, then why not just change the
default option in the C code? Only one number has to be changed.
  Up until this version, I systematically did this. But now I am
developing R code to go on a CD for the second edition of my repeated
measures book so I have to be using a standard R, not a specially
compiled one to my tastes.
  As to wanting an .RData if the terminal disappears. Basically, I
never want an .RData. I have the input and hopefully the output files.
If I am working on an article, I keep all relevant data sets and
analyses in the same directory. If I am working on one of my books, I
keep data analyses by chapter. If I am doing consulting, I often have
several distinct analyses of a data set, all in the same directory.
None of these is conducive to using .RData. I just don't like the
S-Plus habit of automatically and silently loading in what you last
did when you may not even remember what it was a couple of weeks ago.
  I have lost too many hours trying to figure out why analyses are not
calculated correctly when it was just a hidden .RData from a batch
job.
