R-alpha: contr.helmert: bug (??) don't have the SAME problem

Peter, I cannot reproduce your bug
I can type
solve(cbind(c(1,1,1,1),contr.helmert(4)))
many times, and never get an error.
Also,
for(n in 2:7) {
A <- cbind(rep(1,n), contr.helmert(n)); print(A); print(solve(A),digits=4)}
is just fine.
But then I do

$arch
[1] "sparc"
$os
[1] "solaris2.5"
$system
[1] "sparc, solaris2.5"

[1] "Beta"

[1] "0"
$major
[1] "0"

And this seems reproducible now.
Also under SunOS4 gcc (above was Solaris, Sun's cc).
