I should know this but I don't.  I regularly update to the latest git
version of ESS and create a Debian package using

cd ESS
fakeroot debian/rules binary

but the version number on that package is less than the version number on
the CRAN/Ubuntu package so, when I update packages, it gets removed in
favor of the older version from CRAN, which appears to be a "newer" version.

Do I need to pin the version or something like that?  Feel free to redirect
me to R-SIG-Debian if that seems a more appropriate list.
