Correct me if I'm wrong, but was there an option to add spaces around =
operators in ESS "out of the box". Was I delusional and have to use
smart-operator mode for stuff like this?

e.g. when I tap TAB for autocomplete I'd like to get spaces around "=" for
function parameters, like "na.rm = " instead of default "na.rm="
