But I think ESS is being loaded before .emacs is source on both Windows and
Debian GNU/Linux. So that leaves no good way to intervene beforehand.
I don't recall if my Windows installation was based on Vincent's package; I
think it was.

P.S. I don't personally know what ElDoc is or want to disable it, just
commenting on the general issue of pre-load configuration.
