Did you mean (setq ess-help-own-frame t)?


Does "q" work better than "x"? I am afraid we cannot make "x" to close
the frame, because that is not what you  would usually want. You can
write your own quick function and bind it to x if you want, but I would
not recommend that, as you might kill a wrong frame by mistake.
