[ESS] no working R process

Did it not find R-2.7.1 (i.e. without the tilde, backup file)?  It seems
strange that you would have the backup file R-2.7.1~ on your path, but
not R-2.7.1

What happens from a terminal when you just type:

R-2.7.1~

?? does it start a working version of R?
