Hi Vincent:

That's true.  It is mainly a nice feature for US/English keyboards.
It was actually part of the original Carbon Emacs port and I got
very addicted to this feature.  Unfortunately, the Carbon XEmacs
port doesn't follow it and most other ports don't either.  So, if you
want this feature, the Cocoa port is what you really need (or Aquamacs
if it is supported for your language as Vincent says).
