[ESS] html help in R 2.10 (Linux)

I would like to use the html help in R.  In .Rprofile, I have (among
other options):
options(browser="/home/baron/firefox/firefox",help_type="html")

It works but it has two problems.  First, if I say
?sum
in the R window in emacs, for example, ESS splits the frame and opens
a blank frame in the bottom half, which I do not want and have to kill
manually.

Second, if I ask for help again, ESS opens a new browser window.  At
the end of the sessions I have several windows open, which I must
close manually.  I would like everything to appear in the same
window of firefox.
