OK..I was focused on OSX relative to the context of the discussion.

Apple does include SVN in XCode Tools, however it is an older version,  
1.5 if memory serves. I no longer have it on my system. If that  
version is OK, then one need not worry about installing or compiling  
1.6.x. Of course the repo file formats have changed with each new  
minor release, so while there is backward compatibility for SVN  
itself, some third party tools do not yet support 1.6.x. One can break  
things if you do a 'svnadmin upgrade'.

They still don't include a FORTRAN compiler however. So for those of  
us requiring one in the R world, we use one that Simon Urbanek has  
kindly made available via CRAN.

Apple does some good things, but of course, like most, has been known  
to put its foot in its mouth.  The latest scandal over the smoking/ 
exploding iPods and gag agreements isn't helping matters....but then I  
digress even further.  :-)
