[ESS] [R] ESS and Emacs

there seems to be some confusion over where your .emacs file should
go.  I'm not on a windows machine right now, but one suggestion I have
is that in your emacs you type:
M-x describe-variable RET user-init-file

as this variable should provide the filen name, including directory,
of the init file file.  That should be where your .emacs
customizations go.

To test that is really the case, put some nonesense on line 1 of that
file, such as:

and you should get an error when you restart emacs.
