We are sorry for this bug
which no of the ESS developers had noticed for a whole month,
because the R users among us never use C-c C-q or the menu entry
"Quit S".

We (well, almost entirely Stephen Eglen) have fixed this bug
about a week ago; we would be happy if you guys could try to
replace your version of  ....../ess(-5.2.4)/lisp/ess-inf.el
with the current development version
  https://svn.r-project.org/ESS/trunk/lisp/ess-inf.el

{and delete your version of ess-lisp.elc if you got one}

and try again. {Maybe use ESS-bugs instead of ESS-help if you
 still have problems; these may be because you'd need the
 development version of other files as well -- I'm happy to tell
 you in private how you can get them quickly.}
