Please tell us what the confusion is, and we will fix it.
For windows, the installation is very simple:
1. unzip ESS. I place it parallel to emacs in the directory
2. Add a single line to your ~/.emacs (for emacs) or ~/.xemacs/init.el file
That is the complete installation requirement.
