[ESS] ESS-Version under Xemacs

Thanks again for answering. In the meantime I accidentally found a version
number of ESS in Xemacs.
When I open the menu item TOOLS>PACKAGES>LIST and INSTALL and go with the
mouse pointer over ESS the minibuffer shows Inst V: 1.12 Auth V: 5.2.3
Maint: Rodney Sparapani ...
So I assume that means ESS Version 5.2.3.
It seems, as I am using only very basic ESS-functionality since I am
learning only slowly, it does not matter much.

Off topic and not urgent:
Using Xemacs and ESS primarily for R, and working on Windows, should I
consider to change to Emacs in the future? As far as I see, both only offer
Windows binaries that are fare behind the current versions. It's not as
with R where the Windows binary is always up to date.

Thanks again
