Graphics device makes ESS hang on quitting

If I try the following:

plot(1:10)
q()

R hangs after asking whether I want to save the workspace (irrespective
of whether I reply "y" or "n". This doesn't happen for Rgui, and
it has happened both with R v 1.6.2 and 1.7.0. I don't recall it 
happening before I installed 1.6.2. I use ESS 5.1.20 and Emacs 
21.2 on Windows.

Has this happened to anyone else?
