John:

There's an intro ESS manual @
http://software.biostat.washington.edu/ess/doc/ess-intro.pdf

We are working on a ESS User Manual in PDF which will be an update of the HTML
version.

>Dear ESS list members,

>I've prepared a brief draft document describing the use of ESS and R with
>XEmacs under MS Windows, along with some configuration files (e.g., for
>initial window setup and a toolbar). This material is aimed at novice users
>of ESS and Emacs.

>The document and configuration files are respectively at

>I should mention that I encountered a couple of problems: (1) I had to set
>R-editor to "winclient.exe" (rather than "gnuclient.exe") (see the init.el
>file); (2) I had to modify ess-load-file to handle backslashes in paths
>properly (see the .toolbar file).
>
>As well, I wasn't able to locate an up-to-date downloadable version of the
>ESS manual. There's an HTML version at software.biostat.washington.edu, and
>an older PDF version at stat.ethz.ch. Did I miss something?
