ESS and S-PLUS on a Macintosh

Tim, I think you got your answer already, but here's a little more detail:

I'm running OS X 10.2.
First I installed  XDarwin/XFree86 (from the XonX project at sourceforge).
Then I installed fink (a package manager system).
Then I installed emacs using fink.
Then I downloaded the ESS sources and followed the installation 
instructions, i.e., exactly the same way I did on Solaris).
ESS works.
