I am worried about the messages from the emacs itself
Source file `/usr/freeware/share/emacs/21.1/lisp/emacs-lisp/ring.el' newer than byte-compiled file

Why are you getting those messages?  It makes me think that you have an
inconsistent emacs distribution.  Did you load a newer emacs into a
directory that had a previous version?
