Echoing behaviour in Emacs 21.1.1

Rich,

Thanks for the info.  I tried the patch and now when I enter a command
in the *R* buffer it hangs and I get

   Symbol's value as variable is void: inferior-R-page

in the minibuffer.  As far as it goes, I see inferior-R-page in the
patch, but it's not defined anywhere in the source for ESS-5.1.19.

Anyway, please don't bother too much about this.  Obviously it's not a
showstopper.  I've been living with it for a while now and it won't
hurt me to wait a little longer for the fix in ESS-5.1.20.  Many
thanks to all involved for your efforts.
